While the tourism industry suffered under the COVID-19 pandemic, the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry was able to continue operations with minimal adjustments and even managed to hire people at a time many Belizeans were losing their jobs. Ready Call Center (RCC), one of the largest BPO’s in the country, is taking its operations to the next level by opening up a branch in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, creating even more employment opportunities for islanders.
On Friday, a group of 34 San Pedranos gathered together for RCC’s first orientation/training session at the SanCas Plaza in downtown San Pedro. The initiative, which was the idea of Area Representative for Belize Rural South Andre Perez, is geared towards making 200 new jobs available on the island.
Perez addressed the gathering remotely, applauding their interest in the opportunity, and stressing the pandemic illustrated Belize’s need to diversify its economy.
“We should not rely on just one economy, which [in our case is] basically tourism. We learned the hard way.” Perez said. “I am confident that with their extensive background in customer and guest services, they will excel at their duties. We look on proudly at our young people as they head back into the workforce.”
