Today we celebrate the Garifuna Settlement Day in Belize. This is a holiday created by Thomas Vincent, a belizean civil rights activist, in 1941 but it was until 1977 that was declared a national holiday.
Every year, on November 19th, Belize commemorates the arrival of the Garinagu to the jewel in 1832, after being expelled from the Grenadines
Au Bun, Amürü Nu Hagabüribei Garinagu; Awanse Wamá Lau: ‘I for You, You for Me’ Is the Garifuna Way; Let Us Move Forward.
Happy Garifuna Settlement Day!
